What's this tutoring?

In upper secondary school, the level of mathematics and physics soars, as most guardians and parents remember. Not to mention the requirements in further education! If you are aiming for upper education or are already enrolled, now's the time to strengthen your ability through tutoring.

Later on, every students' time is tied to even more challenging topics, so now in the early stages of upper secondary education we must ensure that the 'basics' are well ingrained.

Of course, help can be found outside of the basics - if I've studied it, I can offer my assistance!

With my tutoring, we primarily focus on learning the applications of theory. This means improving our ability to form legible solutions, solve problems and think logically - the main goal is to be able to utilise theory outside of the textbook and classroom.

Teaching methods

You learn first and foremost by doing. My teaching revolves around problem solving and reasoning solutions, because then we learn the theory much more efficiently than when we e.g. read the textbook from cover to cover. After all, the end goal of studying is applications in realistic situations, so that's what we'll practice.

There are three phases when handling a new topic:

1. Handle the theory. First we'll derive the topic's central equation, solution method or phenomenom - in other words, I'll introduce the topic first as a way to solve some problem.

2. Example exercises. Next, we'll solve some problems where we directly utilise the theory we just learnt. Now, the student familiarises themselves with methods of solution.

3. Exercises Finally, the student will solve some select exercises with my minimal assistance. Here, the student develops confidence, because they can solve problems themselves!

Limitations

Because I myself am only in the second year of high school, I'm not yet equipped to help in every topic. These are mainly courses and topics that I have simply not reached yet. That why in the later courses - senior advanced mathematics and physics courses - I simply cannot help yet.

Another limit is related to location. I only provide face-to-face tutoring, so my students should be located near Lahti. In future, tutoring may be available online, but for now we can only go face-to-face.

As a student and athlete, I can be quite busy - afternoons Mon-Fri would be the best time slot to set up tutoring. During one appointment, I can, however, take on 1-3 students at a time, as long as everyone is focused on the same topic and are roughly equal in ability.
